Paeng’s at Eastwood

It has been a while since I last played billiards. Let’s see. Hm. Around 7-8 years ago? I was still with Loyola Plans Inc.’s dotCOM team and this activity was one of our stress relievers. I actually suck at billiards. I just enjoy the game, that’s all.

Needless to say, we were kind of devastated when the AMF Puyat sports centers in both Greenbelt and the Magallanes area had been replaced by Ayala shopping centers.

Two weeks ago, Cris and I, while waiting for her sister, decided to pass the time by visiting Paeng’s, which is Eastwood’s answer to all the demolished AMF Puyat buildings.

No, I wasn’t aiming for the 8 ball, although Cris had to re-teach me the basics.

Yeah, it has always been easier for me to use my knuckles.

I love how Cris shot this.

Aaaaand, sorry for my blurred shot. I didn’t want to post this photo but it’s the only one that captures Cris’s form perfectly.

Think she’s trying to measure the angles? She’s actually trying to hit the ball without using her other hand. Meep.

Anyway, we had fun that night, but I didn’t like entire setup. The pool tables were too near each other; we kept accidentally hitting other people’s butts and vice-versa. Another thing I don’t like: Paeng’s hourly rate is around PhP240-260 but I ended up paying PhP290+ just for extending for four minutes. (And it wasn’t even our fault. We were informed only four minutes later that our time was up. It almost felt like we had been robbed.)

A week after this, we went to MOA to play billiards. SM’s rates were pretty much the same, EXCEPT you pay up front. When your one hour is over, the girls at the counter will page you. At least you wouldn’t feel like they’re waiting for you to go over the hourly limit and then pounce on you. (*Glares at the memory of Paeng’s staff.*) Furthermore, the tables are spaced widely apart. I like that. I think Paeng’s could learn a thing or two from SM’s system.

Pool is fun even if you are terrible at it (as I am). My memories are always of dark bars with tight places to play so I don't think I'd be bothered by the lack of space where you were. Darts, Pool, and (table) Shuffleboard are the kind of things I can get behind and enjoy (as long as no one minds how bad I am).
