Tin-Aw Gallery celebrated their anniversary with a two-part exhibit. Although I was present during the first show, I didn’t have Shin-Chan2 then.
This time around, my boss, Robert Besana, Program Director of Asia Pacific College’s School of Multimedia Arts, is among the participating artists. I have mixed feelings about his artwork, though…and he knows the reason. We’ll get into that later. Haha!
If my readers would remember, Tin-Aw was also the gallery where RVersion, which won the SoMA Best Exhibit award in 2009, was held.
Anyhoo, without further ado, let me present the works. Of course, I wouldn’t capture them completely since I’m encouraging everyone to drop by and see these beauties for themselves. All of them are really breathtaking up close. (I’m pretty much enjoying the extreme close-ups stored in my hard drive.)
This show was curated by one of my idols, Patrick Flores. Yes, this post is peppered with my biases. You have been warned. Haha!

I have never seen her succumb to what I call “lazy art”. This is just so incredible!
Ok, now let’s move on to why I wouldn’t post close-ups of Robert’s artwork even though I have so many shots of the details stored in my hard drive. My boss is majorly fascinated with…ugh…Marian Rivera. The one woman whose um…presence (for lack of a better term)…is powerful enough to stop me from voting for Noynoy or buying from Jag. Thank goodness, there’s Bench; their denims are just as good.
In all fairness to Robert, I think this is one of his best pieces. His use of red and black ballpoint pens illustrated such painstaking labor. My hand hurts just thinking about all the work that went into it.
He also made Marian Rivera look prettier than she really is. Well, I heard she’s gorgeous in person — friends in the fashion industry have already told me — but Robert made her even more so. I can grudgingly admit that much. Honestly, though, when you gaze at her billboards, you know that she really is the queen of print ads. (When I saw her billboard posted right before our building, I took it as a divine symbolism of my resignation. It’s not something I wish to see on a daily basis so I guess it means my decision has been blessed.) Oh, and she’d definitely do well on a silent movie, too, much like the one Leo Abaya presented.
I also forgive Robert because his title nailed it. Heh.
