Tales of Love and Hate

Open Office can’t ever hope to catch up to Microsoft Office 2008 for the Mac. I was doing my assignment a few weeks ago and I nearly wanted to throttle the LCD monitor in 604 because Open Office Impress violates every cell in my body that is a Multimedia Artist.  It’s the ugliest thing ever invented. Thank goodness, my professor seemed highly amused by my antics (I was doing an impression of Audrey Hepburn’s Eliza Doolittle) while I was reporting that she thought my presentation was good.

And today, I was able to do my lecture in Powerpoint 2008 for the Mac and boy, I just fell in love all over again. Everything’s so pretty and shiny, my eyes were twinkling with love.

Then, when I was done with that, I did my mid term paper for COMM240 on Word 2008 for Mac.  Goodness. You just gotta love the possibilities!  My head is still throbbing from the fever that visited me upon coming home from Corregidor but these new things just sorta make me forget about the pain…sometimes.

Verdict:
I love MS Office 2008 (Mac).
Open Office can go suck eggs.

Unionbank EON Cyber Account
I’ve been having problems logging into my account weeks ago because they put up a transaction password (which COULD NOT BE SET) right after you log in. Today, tired of waiting for a miracle to happen, I called up customer service.  They gave me instructions upon resetting my transaction password.  Unfortunately, the instructions didn’t match what I saw onscreen…and I am still having the same problem.  I tried calling up customer service again, and what do you know…they’re busy. I’ve been on hold for 46 million years already. -_-

I don’t know whose smart idea it was to put up a transaction password ASIDE from a login password. It’s not as if we haven’t had enough problems getting the EON thing to work from Day 1.

I have half a mind to close my EON account and just transfer my Paypal funds to my ever-reliable BPI account.  BPI’s online facility has never let me down. So I wonder if it’d work.

Verdict:
BPI is teh LURVE.
As one PinoyExchange forum poster (kerb) said: “It’s called EON because it takes EONS to transact.”

Un/Welcome Disturbance
While I love Multiply for giving me something to rest my eyes on in times like these (sick, with deadlines to finish), I’m absolutely detesting YM right now. With Multiply, you get to choose the things you want to see. With YM, people can’t read status messages and disturb you at the most inopportune time.  It’s really strange.  When I’m not doing anything, people don’t bother me. But when I’m really really really needing concentration, they’re all over the place with the silliest questions man can think of. Gah!

Verdict:
Multiply is good for R&R.
YM should be accessed only by people who understand what the red circle with a dash means.

I try invisible mode. Or if I’m not particularly hiding from people, I just become online to a select few I know who wouldn’t bother me =P

OpenOffice may have some limitations (I’m using it now because I can’t afford to purchase Office 2008 for my own laptop, and the 60-day trial version has already expired), but I’m still a big fan of software libre. Hahaha! 🙂

yeah, i think it’s pretty good for functional use. it’s perfect for my mom, dad and brother. but for hardcore users, programmers and multimedia designers, it kinda kills. hahaha.

it’s called the law of attraction…people see “DO NOT DISTURB” and so of course, they can’t help but disturb you. as an experiment, try putting “BAWAL UMIHI DITO” as your status message… ;D
