Shiseido Make-Up Workshop at the Powerplant

During the weekend, I was able to attend the Shiseido Make-Up workshop courtesy of Rowena (of Animetric’s World). I have to admit that apart from the eyebrows and occasional eyeliner, I haven’t been much of a make-up user for the past year. It’s mostly because despite the number of workshops I have attended, I remain an idiot at applying make-up.

Anyway, I arrived late. Meep! But I was thankful for the tips I learned. More on that later.

It’s a good thing that they didn’t start immediately so I was just in time for the actual demo.

I do not doubt the expertise of Shiseido’s staff when it comes to selecting the right make-up because of my experience with them while I was looking for a gift. I dropped by one of their stores one time and I described the person I was buying foundation for. She was mestiza. But they didn’t immediately recommend a shade. They asked me what kind of mestiza and I told them that she was half Italian and olive-skinned. This is actually pretty tricky because people usually assume that all Caucasian mestizas are pinkish. The person who received my present was pleasantly surprised that I was able to pick the right shade. I’d have to thank Shiseido for that.

My favorite part. Eye make-up has always been problematic for me (super oily lids!!!), which was why I gave up on it. I asked for tips at the end of the session.

While we were all listening, we were given some treats to munch on.

Some chocolate chip cookies. There was also a batch of choclate covered biscuits but those did not last.

This tasted a lot like peach. I wasn’t quite sure if it’s peach tea or peach juice.

Here, Ro shows readers her favorite Shiseido lipstick.

After the demo and question-and-answer portion, we were asked to try out the different selections of cosmetics and skin care products.

Honestly, my mom, sister and I are Shiseido users. Well…that was before I went on hiatus (stopped working for 3 months) and started living like a hermit (therefore, broke). Now, I just enjoy my mom’s stash whenever I visit my parents. Because my mom has freckles, she uses the White Lucent line. They’re pretty effective in keeping them off.

Anyway for the things I learned in this workshop:

  1. I never really use water when using make-up but Shiseido says it’s a huge no-no. You’re actually inviting bacteria to thrive on your brushes and make-up.
  2. One of the guests asked what she could do if she bought the wrong shade of foundation (problems with acidity turning your face orange after a couple of hours). The solution was to use a primer to put a distance between the foundation and the acidity of your skin.
  3. I asked about oily eye lids. They said that primer is still the solution for it, but also to use only a small amount of eye shadow, especially for branded cosmetics like Shiseido and Shu Uemura. These are heavily pigmented.
Anyway, it’s not that I can practice anytime soon but these are valuable tips I could definitely use, especially during business and formal occasions. Thanks for the experience, Ro! =^.^=

You mentioned in your other posts that make up gives you allergies. Does this post mean na hiyang ka sa Shiseido or hypoallergenic yung make-up line nila?

Yup! I have no problems with Shiseido and I used to buy them when I can still afford it. With my current budget now (will hopefully improve by the end of the month), I can only afford sunblock and nothing else. Haha!
