Guardian for July 2011: Voltron GoLion

“From days of long ago, from uncharted regions of the universe, comes a legend. The legend of Voltron: Defender of the Universe! A mighty robot. Loved by good, feared by evil. As Voltron’s legend grew, peace settled across the galaxy. On planet Earth, a galaxy alliance was formed. Together with the good planets of the solar system, they maintained peace throughout the universe. Until a new horrible menace threatened the galaxy. Voltron was needed once more. This is the story of the super force of space explorers. Specially trained and sent by the Alliance to bring back Voltron: Defender of the Universe.”
Remember these lines? Wow, I still recall at least half of that entire intro paragraph. Hello, childhood memories!! My desk guardian for July 2011 is Voltron: GoLion. (Yup, I am going to be very specific about this one.)
This is her up close (I still maintain it’s a “she”). When you combine all five lions, they form Voltron. This was my favorite, since I think the lion robots was a good idea. They sorta made mechs feel organic (even if the lions are still sorta square-ish).
I think I’d need to revisit my past, since I had almost forgotten what the plot was all about. Voltron has a very rich back story (the lions were actually sentient beings!)…and there was a huge difference between the Japanese and US releases, so it might be worth checking into. Anyway, for my Guess the Guardian winner: Congratulations to Kate Gienelyn Sinaon! You actually nailed the answer I was looking for. Since you left your email address along with your answer, please await my email. =^.^= Curious readers may read her entry here, which was actually the very last.

Waaaah! Where did you get this? I used to have one before, too! I remember my sisters use to play them as part of their “bahay-bahayan's” guard dog (or lion) until everything eventually got lost.

in between Voltron and Voltes V, i like Voltron's design better. only that Voltes V is a lot bigger, i think. i was just forced to watch Voltest V over Voltron kase malabo yung channel ng Voltron sa amin dati. 🙂

Same here!! Mas gusto ko Voltron. Tsaka…di naman ata part ng childhood natin ang Voltes V eh. We were watching re-runs na, kungbaga iba na yung culture natin when it comes to aesthetics.
