Freeway Summer 2011: Tattoo Swimwear by Twinkle Ferraren

Ever since I hit the 110lbs mark, I had stopped looking forward to the summer. Good thing Freeway’s Summer Collection 2011 landed on my inbox a couple of days ago. Being passionate about art and design, the tattoo-inspired pieces immediately caught my attention.

These were designed by Twinkle Ferraren, who initially was an accessories designer. She took up courses in London and eventually tried her hand at swimwear designing.

Snippets from the press kit:

Freeway’s Tattoo-Inspired Collection is striking and definitely hot!  Tattoo lovers can take their passion for the ink to the waves or just casually lounge pool side while looking stylish. The collection inspired by tribal and tropical tattoos includes mix of strong with vibrant colored statement, sporty, functional and active-wear inspired pieces and cover-ups. Swimwears are mixed with mesh materials and tattoos printed on the suit, perfect for those who love to try new sports and activities in the beach. Twinkle describes the collection as “a modern and female version of the Pintados and tribes”.

Notice that the swimsuits featured here look flattering? That’s because Twinkle Ferraren knows which pieces compliment which body parts. To quote her:

“The basics to remember are for full chests/top heavy – styles like halter, bandeau and tankini styles are good; for those who have less on top/flat-chested can actually carry the bikinis and the one-pieces with a deep neckline; those with fuller figures can create illusions with the one-pieces-especially the curved one; from this collection – the racerback and scarf-tankini are versatile sets that can also be worn as activewear (for exercising / working out).”

The photos I posted here are actually my favorites in the entire collection, especially the blue cover-up. I’m a huge fan of bikini cover-ups as they make me imagine romantic walks on a moonlit beach.

And this red suit? I just like red, simple as that. Hehe.

Purple is also very flattering on Asian skin. I only realized this when my mom would say that purple lights up my complexion. She would say this about my sister, too.

Aaaand these are the rest of the pieces I’d love to own:

White isn’t me, but the one on the left looks like it could be worn with jeans, sneakers and jackets.

The sporty blue two-piece set will probably work well on women who are physically active and/or are a little bit more shy about their bodies. Ditto with the magenta two-piece set.

Just my two cents, though: I wish they could have gotten two models for this. Don’t get me wrong, this current model is fabulous…but we also need to see these suits in full-figured women. Two-piece suits are amazing on voluptuous ladies, though I doubt people will automatically take my word for it. (Since I’m in between full-figured and thin, being an ectomesomorph.)
