Ok, first thing’s first…I did something really stupid. I forgot to set my camera’s shutter speed (it was meant for theater, since I watched Live AIDS two Sundays ago) and the lighting for this Human Nature event went really weird. In fact, I was so spaced out, I did not even bother to check the shutter speed. I was just wondering why everything looked so dark. It wasn’t until another event that I realized I was being a monumental idiot. Hahahahayz. So forgive me if I stylized some of the photos.

Anyway, I was invited to the launching of Human Nature’s reformulated deodorant and feminine wash last April 12, which was held at the Filipinas Heritage Library (one of my favorite places in Makati). I’ve only been using Human Nature for my bath now so this is really something that interests me. For those who aren’t familiar with the brand, there are two main reasons why I patronize them: (1) they’re organic; and (2) proceeds of your purchases go to Gawad Kalinga.

I arrived a little bit late (from work) and I was able to sit through the discussion about the new women’s deodorant. Apparently, it keeps odor away but not necessarily stop you from sweating. Wait.

You might find yourself asking if this is a good thing or not. It would do well to remember, however, that it’s only but natural for our body to sweat. It’s really more of the odor that bothers us. Ok, well, I get bothered by sweaty armpits, which is why I don’t wear sleeves. I am not a deodorant person but to know that something like this is available in the market…Wow! It smells really clean and baby powder like. (Now I don’t have to buy baby cologne, haha! That’s one more non-organic brand I can chuck off my grocery list.)

Here’s a short description of its ingredients, retrieved from the press kit:

It is 100% naturally derived from the shells of sea crustaceans and it’s an anti-bacterial active that is biocompatible, non-toxic and biodegradable. Chitosan has also been clinically proven to promote wound healing while also being anti-itching, anti-microbial and an excellent skin moisturizer.

That sunflower oil they put in there? It’s supposed to help lighten underarms. Since my all-time favorite Human Nature product, the Sunflower Beauty Oil helps alleviate dark undereye circles, I suppose it could do the same thing for underarms as well.

I wonder if I should be too embarrassed to say this but…I use this fem wash and I don’t ever plan on using anything else. Why? Well, besides the fact that it’s organic and inexpensive, it also lasts for a long long long long time. I used to order from another organic farm (that one had a minty feel), but it ran out all too quickly.

Because Human Nature cares about Filipina women AND the environment, it has taken the best ingredients nature has to offer and created a wonderful feminine wash that’s entirely free of all the usual harmful chemicals found in many feminine washes such as triclosan, parabens and SLS/SLES. Natural ingredients include aloe leaf extract and chamomile essential oil, known for their anti-bacterial, soothing, calming and aromatic benefits, coconut and sunflower oils, natural cleansing agents, and rice and anise extracts to work as natural preservatives.

The other bloggers were really interested in the product lectures. I saw Pax over tharrr! Even our meals were healthy. We listened to this educational discussion over pesto pasta (plus other snacks) and a bottle of calamansi juice.

This is the question and answer portion. I did wonder if they were making any money at all, considering that many of their ingredients have to be shipped from abroad. Many organic brands are very expensive because of this exact same reason.

They did say that they are finding ways to grow their sunflowers here.

Anyway, I really hope Human Nature expands further. I’m just so happy that people actually thought of this and that they’d reach out to bloggers like us. (Although it does make sense…since I buy the products online.)

Yoga Jane (Jane U) was being her usual animated self here. She’s very health conscious so she had a lot of questions that were very thought-provoking. It turns out that her kids are allergic to scented soaps and this is something that I’m always interested in learning about. Many products claim to be hypoallergenic but have irritants in their ingredients. Since I’m very happy with Human Nature so far, it seems like we can be at ease.

Human Nature’s new makeup line, Love Minerals. I’m a fan of the blush and the eyeshadows are starting to grow on me as well. They don’t look highly pigmented but they actually are! I just need a good primer, though. The humidity is weighing heavier and heavier on me.

The rest of the products that Human Nature has to offer. I’m a new fan of their Orange and Elemi (with bamboo scrubs) facial wash, which I think is a whole lot better than their Tomato cleanser.
