John and Yoko Cosmopolitan Japanese Restaurant

I swear, I am not liking my food photos lately. Haha! I must not be in the mood. Then again, John and Yoko’s interiors are very dark. Though that doesn’t really explain my lackluster composition. It must be the fact that my sister was already threatening to stab me with a spoon if I didn’t hurry… We were with her colleague Aliza and my design partner Cris.

Being in John and Yoko, which sits on one of the decadent halls of Greenbelt 5, almost feels like sitting in a bar, sans the loud music, smoke and scantily clad patrons. I guess that’s what being a “cosmopolitan Japanese restaurant” meant. (I’m still not really sure what cosmopolitan means in the context of Japanese dining because only two meanings come to mind whenever I hear the word: liquor and the magazine. Gosh, I am sooo not hip.)

Anyhoo, our orders:

Spider Roll (PhP258). I don’t know what’s in it but it was yummy. This was Aliza’s order.

Another angle of the sashimi plate. I should keep the receipts next time, so I can remember the names of the food.

Unagidon (PhP328). My photo made it look like something that crawled out of Resident Evil 3D.

This is definitely salmon. I just forgot what kind.

Shoyu Ramen (PhP308), Cris’s favorite. She thinks the taste is so-so, though. She wants more meat so she gave me all her veggies

Ebi Tempura (PhP368). What else can this be? I like my tempura crunchy and not oily. This one fits the bill perfectly.

I think this is a new dish, Tofu Cheese Melt (PhP178). It literally melts in your mouth.

Gosh, this was heavenly…

Many people might find John and Yoko’s pricing expensive, but if you think about it, most of their dishes are made for sharing. We couldn’t finish any of these on our own! In fact, I thought I needed to be rolled out of the restaurant. I was THAT full.

Some of the dishes were hit-or-miss, but the ones I ordered — Ebi Tempura and Tofu Cheese Melt — were delicious. What we ate for dessert? I think I’ll post about that tomorrow, along with the winner of the Starbucks VIA raffle contest.
