I had been thinking of a mother’s day anecdote for a few weeks now but it’s a shame that I’ve run out of time (need to do a bit more research before elections). Anyway, we opted to have dinner at Bono Tei in BF Parañaque. I swear, whenever we pass by this place, the parking is always packed! So we were lucky enough to have come at a lean hour (the guests came in droves as soon as we were seated).

We were so hungry that we ordered tuna and salmon sashimi as starters while we thought about what else to order. Forgive me because I had not been able to post photos of everything we had eaten. We were so hungry that we all dove in before I could take pictures.

Uh, yeah…those slices were actually huge. Or at least, bigger than your usual sashimi slice. I like that it had seaweed and lemon to accompany it.

And here’s a photo of my youngest brother Tim, being taught how to use chopsticks by my cousin Nico.

Bono Tei actually has many different kinds of miso soup, just like many restaurants all over Japan. We all got ourselves some savory wakame miso, which is basically just a bunch of seaweeds and spring onions and had no tofu.

You can get another type of miso, like if you prefer tofu over seaweed. They have that, too.

Here’s my order, salmon onigiri. It doesn’t look heavy but it actually packs a punch.

I took a photo after I bit into it. The salmon inside it is pink and juicy, even though it’s cooked.

My Japanese meals are not complete without some ebi tempura. We initially ordered 5 pieces, then we later ordered a few more sets. But I think I’ve only eaten about two pieces before I got really full.

My brother’s wife, Keng, ordered some seafood salad. I thought it would be something like kani salad with Japanese mayo for dressing. Apparently, she thought the same thing so she asked for the dressing to be served separately.

Nope, the dressing was actually vinaigrette and went well with the octopus, shrimp, tuna, kani, tomato and lettuce. Finally, a real salad that actually cleanses your palate!

My parents and my sister Alex had sake, which is Japanese rice wine.

333 El Grande St. Cor. Jakarta BF Homes, 1720 Parañaque. They’re open from 11AM to 11PM and their rates are mid-range. The servings are HUGE, though.
