3rd Anniversary at Hotel Sofitel
Every year, Nicco and I celebrate our anniversary by eating somewhere we have never eaten. Two years ago, it was Shangri-La Circles. Last year, it was at Chef Popit’s near the Pacific Star Building. This year, it had to be Hotel Sofitel’s Spiral.
We got there an hour earlier than our reserved time, but it was good because the waiters were all very attentive and they took extra care in serving us. Just an hour later…they became understaffed. Thank goodness for arriving — and leaving — early! It started to get noisy at around 7ish and Nicco and I felt like we were grossly overdressed (even though we were actually wearing smart casual attire).
Anyhoo, Spiral’s selection wasn’t as diverse as Circles but I felt like I got my money’s worth (having the buffet on a Saturday meant you had to pay 1.58K per head) because I was able to sample nearly everything. With Circles, I wasn’t able to get to even half of what was being offered. Nicco, as usual, skipped the buffet and went ala carte…mainly because he feared looking like a fat tick that I might have to roll into the parking lot at the end of the evening.
I actually enjoyed myself but next time, I think I should skip the alcohol and say that I’m allergic to it. Didn’t realize that we’d be paying for 700 a glass. I liked the wine, though. It would have been cheaper if we had just bought the bottle instead.
The anniversary dinner, as per tradition, was supposed to be my treat. But Nicco, being the eternally thrifty one (I used to be as cautious about my money as he was), took one look at the bill and promptly told me that he’d shoulder half of it. Then he said that the next time we celebrate another year together, he’d be the one doing the planning. He wants to do something really unique and special…and most importantly…CHEAP. =^.^=
(I don’t really mind paying for the entire thing, but a gesture like that from a man is just…romantic.)
My only disappointment was that I got the wrong iced tea. The last time I ate at Spiral (it wasn’t named Spiral yet), the iced tea served was 200 bucks a pop but was really really good! This peppermint-y concoction that they call Spiral Iced Tea isn’t anywhere as good as that one.

@kurayami
yeah…nicco was like, “no more hotels!” shangri-la's circle wasn't that expensive (compared to sofitel). ^^;;; although i do remember treating my colleagues (which cost twice as much) to new world hotel on my 23rd birthday. but i'm actually looking forward to the fun but cheap creative date that nicco has in mind. having the time of your life doesn't necessarily mean that you have to sell your gut for it, ne?

nicco pa naman is the type who'd say, “my mom said you can wear something light and formal at my cousin's wedding…and no, that does not mean you're going to buy a new dress.” hahaha…well, i did buy two new dresses, and shoes to match, anyway…and as expected, napagalitan ako.
