On Venus Raj’s Controversial Bb. Pilipinas 2011 Hair
I was actually quite clueless about what had been happening in the world these past few days (hectic career transitions etc.), that was until conversations about hair came up last night. The central topic was Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2010, Miss Venus Raj.
Apparently, during the Bb. Pilipinas 2011 coronation night, our darling girl appeared onstage with crimped hair. People all over the interwebs called her Sto. Niño and that her hair stylist made her ugly. In fact, a couple of Facebook pages that are dedicated to “that horrible ‘do” have surfaced recently.
Okay, so Ms. Raj’s mane is straight again, and she had just been interviewed for Cream Silk recently.

So once again, Venus turns to Cream Silk for a reliable beauty regimen. The beauty queen says, “Despite the torture to my hair due to over styling, thanks to Cream Silk vitamin treatment, my hair is recharged. Now, I’m happy that I’m back with my beautiful straight hair.”

My thoughts?
People who are familiar with this blog would also know how I’ve always had hair woes, being born with naturally curly hair. You think I’d join the bandwagon of people saying this kind of hair made her ugly? Heh.
There were times people called me Sto. Niño, especially when I was growing out my rebonded hair and my strands were an irritating mix of straight (broom-like) and curly. I take it in stride, haha. I call them “panget” or “baklang frog” in return. (Only kidding, of course. You might take me seriously. Haha!)
But Venus Raj? I think she rocked the ‘do. She didn’t aim to look like everyone else. I mean, these days it seems as if women only have either ironed hair with walis-like ends or that Korean concept of “natural” curls: (ironed) straight on top, (ironed) large waves at the bottom. Don’t get me wrong, I think those looks are lovely. It’s just that they’re becoming too common and contrived sometimes.
Straight locks or not, I believe Ms. Raj is a beautiful woman. So she changed her hairstyle for a night. Let’s cut her some slack. She still looks gorgeous anyway, especially with that statuesque figure and velvety bronzed skin. (Besides, she’s the beauty queen, we’re not. Hohohoho!)

I also don't have super straight hair. Siguro sa styling lang ng curly hair niya that night…it could have looked better with a different style, even if they are curly naman 🙂

April 17, 2011 at 12:53 amMga Pinoy kasi gusto nakikita lagi stick straight hair. Puwede naman gawin na lang manageable. Kawawa tuloy mga celebrities, they're sometimes forced to abide by Pinoy tastes. Grabe din naman kasi talaga tayo maka-pintas.
And ang hirap kasi ng may crown eh. Talagang Sto. Niño una iisipin ng mga tao. I think she's beautiful naman either way.
Hm. The funny thing is, medyo totoo pag gumamit ka ng conditioner, depending on the amount, nakaka-straighten nga siya ng hair. In my case, mas lumalaki curls ko. Kaya malakas ako gumamit ng conditioner, kung hindi magwo-world war 3 ang kulot ko.
