Romulo Cafe

Remember that Novuhair post I did a few days back? The event was held at Romulo Café. The funny thing was that this is one of the restaurants I’ve been dying to try, it’s just that it’s rare for me to drop by Quezon City.

From the outside, Romulo reminds me of the various art galleries I frequent. That’s part of why I had always been intrigued. From the inside, I was surprised to find out that they actually specialize on Filipino dishes. They just updated the presentation and manner of cooking to fit the contemporary artsy-fartsy feel of the entire venue.

Anyway, let’s start with the dishes that were served during the event.

This is their version of Crispy Pata (approx. PhP625), which has just the right amount of flavor on that delectably crunchy (sinful!!!) skin. I don’t normally eat pork, so I just partook of a small portion.

I’m not sure if this is healthier, but this is their seafood Kare-Kare (approx. PhP600). It tastes like your regular seafood Kare-Kare so there’s not much to expect from this dish.

(Haha, I actually had to zoom in because this dish was placed so far away from me and I didn’t want to disturb everyone’s conversations.)

This was the real surprise. I believe the waiter called it sigarilyas. As you can see, it doesn’t look impressive, but this is actually one of my favorites among all the offerings. I’m guessing that they used coconut milk for this?

Hm. I forgot what this is and who ordered it, but it looks to be a caramel-laced ice cream on top of a half-crunchy half-chewy pastry. Romulo’s desserts range from PhP60-165.

I wonder if this is what the menu indicates as Lava Rock? I’m not fond of chocolate desserts so I skipped this.

Aaand this is what I ordered, Buko Pandan with Ice Cream (PhP150). The pinipig and cherry toppings added a nice touch to what could have been a generic buko pandan fare. Yummmm!

As for the entire structure, I must say that I super love the small function rooms inside Romulo’s.

Those function rooms were a surprise since Romulo’s looks like an art gallery from the outside.

Here’s a shot of the entrance hall.

The rooms are very cozy inside. Those seats are comfy, too! I’m already thinking of having my next blog-related celebration here. Haha!

I was smitten with the interior decor. It would really be nice to spend some quiet time with friends here, even if we have to fork over a few thousand pesos. Some R&R would really be nice and Romulo’s seems like the perfect place to get some.

I just find their dishes a tad too expensive, though. But I’m guessing people come here for the ambience.

ambiance is beautiful but not really comfy for the claustrophobic. 🙂

i love the crispy pata and the eggplant, tomato, and inion swimming in a dsauce is already an ulam by itself.

i haven't tried the buko pandan because i was already full then. but it looks so delicious. weakness ko pa naman desserts.

So it really would be advisable to keep the group small, eh? The only idea that I don't like is if the group is too small (less than half the room), the other half of the room might be filled up with other people. I suppose there has to be a certain number of peeps to keep the room spacious but completely private.
